Today was only the third time I'd seen her, but the second time I’d seen her today, but some souls don’t need a third introduction, obviously. I literally know her name, PERIOD!
BUT-WTH did I run out of the store yelling Bianca, Bianca, Bianca, her mother said 'Diaymun,' I said mam 'I knew that,' I'm sorry. The point is that I instantly went retarted. LMAO
Graceful. Enchanting. Beautiful in that normal, secure, unnervingly articulate way that makes you forget your own name, and obviously her's too. Breathtakingly everything. 'On me, On God-Nem' ...
I was deep in easy small talk with her mother when it happened, laughter, sunglasses, the kind of warmth that doesn’t demand a thing. Diaymun was a few feet away, cellphone to her ear, voice low, handling her personal business with the calm precision of a woman who knows her worth.
Her mother kept smiling at me over the rim of her shades, glancing toward her daughter, and I realized what I was doing, stealing looks without meaning to, without being weird, just drawn. I was falling already, a slow descent I didn’t want to stop.
Then Diaymun stopped mid-sentence on that call.
She pulled the phone from her ear, turned to her mother and me, and apologized. Genuinely. As if our yapping was suffering, as if her business was a burden she’d accidentally laid on us, while we were perfectly content, enjoying the small talk, I was grateful just to be near. She thought she was giving us grief. That was the moment I fell. Not the beauty. Not the grace. The accountability. The way she considered everyone's peace, even when no one asked her to.
Diaymun Lewis is everything. She made my heart stop today without knowing it, the way God Queen energy always does, silent, sovereign, disturbing the air. She’s definitely worth half the kingdom, easy. Probably more.
But, umm … I felt at home with Diaymun & her Mother today, just chatting it up, it was normal to me.
